Property Assessments

The City of Menomonie contracts with Kleven Property Assessment, LLC.

The next assessment evaluation is set tentatively for 2027.

What's the role of the City Assessor?

  • Assessors are interested in fairly determining property values.
  • Assessors don't set tax rates.
  • Assessors don't chase tax dollars.

Assessment rates are calculated using the formula:

Assessment Rate x Value Rate x Tax Rate = Property Tax

Tax Payment Claims must be made to the city clerk through a summons by January 31st of the following year. Two types of claims can be made.

  • Excessive Assessment: An excessive assessment is when the property owner believes the property assessment should be lower.
  • Unlawful Tax: An unlawful tax is for a property the owner believes should be tax-exempt. Some examples of this are Cemeteries, Public/Private School Property, and State/Municipal Property.
