No Parking of Vehicles on Streets for Storage Purposes

No person, firm, or corporation shall use the streets, alleys, or any parking place for vehicle storage. A person shall be deemed to be using the streets, alleys, or other public parking places for storage whenever they park a vehicle thereon for a continuous period of twenty-four (24) hours or more.

Calendar Parking

The city imposes special restrictions to facilitate snow removal and street cleaning. From November 1 through April 1, between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m., motorists must park on the side of the street that corresponds with the date: the side of the street with odd-numbered houses on odd-numbered calendar days, and vice versa.  All streets in the city are subject to the odd-even calendar parking restriction. Signs that restrict or prohibit parking continue to be enforced as posted.

The easiest way to remember the ordinance is to always park your vehicle for the next day if you park before midnight, as enforcement occurs between 2:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m.

The only exceptions are that you may park on the north side of Main Street between 10th Street and 13th Street and the south side of Main Street between 13th Street and 17th Street regardless of the calendar date.

General parking restrictions

  • No parking within ten (10) feet of a fire hydrant
  • No parking within four (4) feet of a driveway
  • No parking closer than fifteen (15) feet to the near limits of a crosswalk (marked or unmarked)
  • No parking for any period of time in a yellow zone

The above restricted areas are often marked with a yellow curb but you are responsible for compliance with the distance limitations whether or not the curb is yellow painted.

Any motor vehicle parked in the front yard or street side yard shall be on a driveway or parking pad. The vehicle will be in violation if any portion of the vehicle/tire is off the approved/improved parking surface.

No parking pad shall be allowed in the front yard or street side yard except:

  • that the Board of Zoning Appeals grants a variance.
  • the parking pad be shielded from the street by landscaping, hedges, or decorative fencing.

This is not a complete list of rules. For a complete list, please contact City Hall or refer to the City Ordinance website.
