Residential Rental Properties
Registration
A Rental Property Registration Form (PDF) is required for any rental property within the City of Menomonie. The registration fee is $10 per rental building.
Additional information on the requirements for a Rental Registration can be found in City Code Title 9 Chapter 2.
Issues with Renting
For problems with a landlord or with your lease that are not a safety issue you may contact the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.
Proposed Ordinance (2026-02): Residential Rental Properties
The City of Menomonie is considering Proposed Ordinance 2026-02, which would update City Code requirements for residential rental properties. If approved, residential rental units in designated Neighborhood Stabilization and Enhancement Districts would be inspected every two years.
What is not included:
- Owner-occupied homes are exempt, including the owner-occupied portion of multi-family buildings.
- Commercial and industrial properties are exempt.
The Common Council is scheduled to consider Proposed Ordinance 2026-02 following a public hearing on Monday, February 2, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at City Hall.
Information about the required public hearing, the proposed Neighborhood Stabilization and Enhancement District #1, and how to provide public input. If you are unable to attend the public hearing, please email comments to communications@menomonie-wi.gov.
