Hazardous waste is waste that can harm the environment and human health if managed improperly. Look on product labels for words like caution, toxic, flammable, reactive, volatile, corrosive, caustic, combustible, etc.

- $10 per vehicle (cash or check only)
Guidelines
- City of Menomonie, Town of Menomonie and Town of Red Cedar residents only - no farms or businesses

Acceptable Items
- Antifreeze
- Brake Fluid
- Degreaser
- Gasoline and Fuels
- Batteries - smaller than a car battery in size (no alkaline or car batteries)
- Bulbs - CFL, U-shape, Circular fluorescent, HID, Incandescent, Fluorescent Tubes, LED
- PCB and Non-PCB Ballasts
- Polish and Spot Removers
- Pool Chemicals
- Aerosol Cans (with product remaining, no empty cans)
- Acids/Bases
- Rodent Bait
- Mercury
- Oil and Lead Based Paint (no latex paint)
- Oil-Based Stains and Polyurethanes
- Adhesives
- Turpentine, Strippers and Thinners
- Insecticides
- Fertilizer with Weed Killer
- Herbicides
- Fungicides
- Rodenticides

This is not an inclusive list of acceptable and unacceptable items. If you have questions, please contact the City of Menomonie.
Latex Paint Disposal
- Latex paint is not accepted at City of Menomonie Clean Sweep Hazardous Waste Collection events.
- Latex paint can be tossed in your regular trash once it is hardened and solid.
Tips for Solidifying Latex Paint
- Remove lid and let air-dry
- Remove lid, mix in kitty litter, sawdust, shredded paper, etc., and let air-dry
- Remove lid and paint thin layers on a cardboard box until empty. Let air dry and toss the paint can, lid and cardboard box in the trash.
Year-Round Hazardous Waste Option
You can bring hazardous waste year-round to Logistics Recycling, Inc at:

Residents must contact LRI and set up an appointment. Call 800-558-1166 or 920-456-0336, or email Logistics Recycling Inc. Fees apply.
Hazardous waste must be dropped off at their facility in Somerset.
Hazardous Waste Reduction Tips
- Reducing the number of hazardous chemicals in your home can help eliminate the need for hazardous waste disposal.
- Read labels carefully to determine if the product is considered hazardous.
- Only buy the amount of product you can use entirely.
- Store products properly in their original container.
- Share any usable, leftover products with a friend or neighbor.
- Switch to alternative non-hazardous products:
- Switch to water-based paints, stains, polyurethane, sealers, etc.
