Overview
The police and fire commission is responsible for hiring, firing, promotion, and demotion of personnel within the police and fire departments.
It is solely responsible for hiring the police and fire chiefs. The commission can also receive and investigate citizen complaints. It can also hold evidentiary hearings to determine potential discipline, including termination of police and firefighters.
