Overview
The Menomonie Public Library Board of Trustees is a team of 12 decision-makers who oversee the library's funding, operations and policies. Per Wisconsin law, the Mayor and City Council appoint seven board members. One member must work in a management role for the School District of the Menomonie Area. These members ensure that the library serves the City well.
The library receives reimbursement funding from Dunn County, to pay for actual services for county residents who do not have a library. Five additional trustees are appointed by the County Board Chair and approved by the County Board of Supervisors to represent their interests.
The trustees have a great deal of responsibility. They approve the library's budget and expenditures, decide how much employees get paid and what their jobs involve, update the library's policies, and file an annual performance report with the State of Wisconsin. They must follow Wisconsin law for open meetings, public records requests, and protection of borrower rights.
The Board plans for the future of the library and ensures it's a place where everyone has the opportunity to explore ideas freely.
