Parking Utility

Overview

The Parking Utility is responsible for operating the downtown parking system composed of streets, lot meters, and parking lots. 

The Parking Utility is authorized to establish loading zones in this area. Property acquired and money borrowed for Utility purposes can only be accomplished by the City Council, even though utility funds may be used for these purposes. The Utility hires a meter collector and hires maintenance work from the Street Department. Meter enforcement is a Police Department expense; fines go to the General Fund, not the Utility Fund.

During the spring of 2024, the City of Menomonie partnered with Downtown Menomonie to do a Downtown Parking Survey!

Downtown Parking Survey Result Summary:

  • 928 Survey Responses 
  • Over half of the responses found the digital parking meters easy to use. 
  • The biggest challenge was "Unavailable parking within five to ten spaces of destination". 
  • Over half of the respondents struggle to find parking more than half the time.
  • Meter maintenance (screen readability, meter malfunctions, etc.) ranked as the most important out of Night Time lighting, Signage Info, Creating More Parking Options, and On-Street Parking for Customers.

These results are being used to find solutions for downtown Menomonie parking!
