[ARCHIVED] ReforMedicine Update

Recently, the Refor team brought forward a growing concern around patients self-ordering expensive, unusual labs and, in some cases, asking their employer plans to pay for them, without consultation from a ReforM provider, and in the absence of a medical provider's order.  Some of these labs are typically ordered only in special circumstances where specialty care providers must educate the patient about the tests before ordering (e.g. genetic counseling).

In order to be the best stewards of our employer partner resources, and to avoid situations where test results are open to misinterpretation,  Refor has decided to look at their policy about self-order of lab studies.

After investigation and thoughtful consideration, it has been decided that Refor employer member patients MAY NOT self-order lab testing of any kind.  They must be either ReforMedicine provider-ordered, or ordered by an MD/DO/PA-C/NP, in writing, if coming from an outside facility.  These are providers which would normally be covered by a health insurance plan.  Orders from chiropractors (DC), naturopathic doctors (ND) or other non-traditional practitioners will not be accepted as sufficient for proceeding with lab testing.

You are welcome to reach out to ReforMedicine with any questions or concerns.
