[ARCHIVED] Tax Roll Process for Collecting Delinquent Water Bills

With our upcoming utility bill mailing, you will see the notice: “Tax Roll Process for Collecting Delinquent Water Bills.” Here’s what that means:

Any past due water bills as of October 15 will receive a tax lien notice in the mail. This notice will go to the property owner and/or the customer listed on the account.

A tax lien means your unpaid water bill will be added to your property taxes through the tax roll process (the official list of property taxes collected each year). The October 1 water bills are not part of this process and will not be transferred to property taxes in November.

To avoid penalties and having your bill transferred to your property taxes:

  • Pay your overdue balance before November 3 to avoid a 10% penalty.
  • All remaining unpaid balances must be paid by November 17.
  • On November 18, any unpaid balances will be transferred to the property tax roll.

For questions about your account, please contact the City of Menomonie Finance Department.
